We had an AMAZING day on our 100th day of Kindergarten. We created 100 day ART projects, we shared our 100 items from home and went on a parade through our school. We did rotations with all kinds of 100 day activities like : creating a tower with 100 cups, finding shapes in our 100 number, flipping a chip 100 times to teach probability, do a dot painting 100 dots and lots, lots more. One of my favorite things was our pictures of us when we are 100 years old. You have some very creative children with some really funny thoughts! Take a look and enjoy our pictures!
We had such a wonderful time today celebrating our 1st semester of class together and watching the Polar Express, wearing our PJ's, drinking hot chocolate and eating cookies, enjoying a singalong and opening some fun gifts! Take a look at our some of our pictures and our videos too! The students were so excited to open their gifts and were so sweet and grateful. We have been learning about the characteristics of the Fall season. We even went outside to rake some leaves up one day! The students loved it! We just didn't have enough to make a jumping pile yet! LOL
This past week we had a lot of fun continuing our learning about 2D shapes. We learned about their sides, lines, and vertices. We looked for shapes in our environment and we created larger shapes using smaller shapes. Here are some pictures of our learning. We also invited Ms. Bennaka and Ms. Olson's classes over to play 6 corners with our shapes! The kiddos had so much fun! We had our first Skate Night for the year on Thursday evening. It was so much fun. I enjoyed getting to see some of my kindergarteners learning to get out there and skate for the very first time! They were awesome!
We finished up our UOS 2 Illustration study this past week. The students worked so hard as they learned that good authors and illustrators add lots of details to their pictures and stories. Students learned about using speech bubbles, sound and thinking bubbles as well as motion lines. Students learned about adding background details as well as how to make your picture stand out by outlining. Students learned about punctuation, spacing and how to write a sentence to go with their WOW pictures. Here are some great pics of our 2nd publishing party! (and of course we celebrated our work with drinks and a cupcake). We worked on learning how to look for "chunks" in our words when we get stuck. Chunks are letter blends or digraphs (th, sh, ow, ee, etc.) or small words that we find in bigger words. The students loved getting to practice this skill.
