Students were asked to work in groups to determine which objects were longer and shorter than a craft stick and then do it again using a paper clip. We then discussed how important it is when measuring to line up the objects being measured and then discussed our findings within our groups and as whole.
We broke up into 4 groups and used a 20 ft. piece of rope to create 2D shapes. We created a rectangle, triangle, square and discussed how many sides and vertices each shape has.
Johnny Appleseed came to visit us during our Apple Week activities. This has been such a great week as we learned all about apples. We used our 5 senses to explore activities, we weighed them, graphed them in multiple ways and even got to taste test them. Johnny was the culmination of a great week!
Mrs. Thomas had everyone cracking up as we played minute to win it games. This was hilarious trying to watch them try to get the wafer into their mouths! So much fun the teachers had to even try it out! We began lots of serious work this week as we started Readers and Writers Workshop this week. Students are learning how to be good listeners, how to work with a partner, how to look at books with their Eagle Eyes and how to share their thinking. It's going to be a great year.
We had our first FUN FRIDAY today . Students will get to participate in a 30 minute Fun Friday activity each week if they have a great week with no behavior referrals, and have all their work done for the week. This is a super incentive to help our K kiddos stay focused on their learning. WE also learn that obedience brings blessing. Our First Fun Friday was sidewalk chalk, bubbles and extra time on the playground.
One of our favorite first day activities of course is learning all about RECESS! WE learned how to line up on our paw lines, and we learned how to use the equipment. Then of course, we got to practice at recess. We spent a lot of time today learning about the RULES in Kindergarten. We made a stoplight ART project to help us remember our rules. We then made a stoplight snack using graham crackers, frosting and m & m's. It was so yummy.
This was a great group of kiddos. I was so excited to meet them at our Back to School Night! I can't wait to get to know their sweet personalities. It's going to be a great year. |
